Welcome to Scott on Fire. I’m Scott, a 30-something-year-old living in Melbourne, Australia. By following the principles espoused by the FIRE movement, I felt confident enough to quit my job and pursue an intentional life without a full-time job.
This site is my personal blog, and while I initially started it to write about personal finance, I feel more inclined to write about whatever takes my fancy. That being said, topics that interest me the most include personal finance, self improvement, minimalism, philosophy, and freedom.
My focus of late has been on building a business and a social media presence. I believe I can use this blog (and by extension, my X profile @ScottOnFire) to discuss my journey from graduating high school to starting a business and beyond. I believe that the stories I have are worth sharing, and I want to try to do that.
I hope this blog will eventually serve as a blueprint of one version of a successful and intentional life. I don’t intend for it to be a roadmap; you shouldn’t follow every piece of advice that any person gives. Nor do I intend for this blog to become a cautionary tale. Success is found in many forms. I want to be able to share my own success story, rather than show how not to do things.
A central topic to my writing will be Financial Independence and how to attain it. I plan to write about saving, investing, and finding ways to make work a worthwhile and meaningful part of your life. I’ll discuss this more in my next post.
My Financial Independence goal
I’m on track to reach Financial Independence by the time I’m 40 years old. If the goal is reached, the passive returns received from my investments will cover all of my expenses.
This might seem outlandish, but it’s possible to save vast amounts of your income by reducing spending only to things that truly matter.
I’ve always been a saver, but I began to learn about investing and the FIRE movement in early 2019.
Now, I’m continuing to use that money to build a portfolio that will serve me for the rest of my life.
Once I found the FIRE movement, there was no turning back. I was ready to build assets to support my current and future lifestyle.
Financial Independence is one of my goals for building security into my lifestyle. This is especially important as I head down the path of entrepreneurship. But I don’t plan on retiring early.
I want to build a life I don’t need a holiday from. A life I don’t need to retire from.
This serves two goals:
1. I don’t need as much to meet my financial needs as I always intend to do some paid work.
2. Should my circumstances change, I’m in a position to earn more money.
To me, this feels like a more natural way of living. And I’m excited to try and see if it works out for me.
The Future
My journey in content creation has only just begun, but I am loving the idea of creating content online. While I have tried writing in the past, I have never stuck with it long enough. I believe this is because I did not build a lifestyle that was conducive to creative work.
Since quitting my job a few months ago to start a business, I’ve been building a lifestyle I love. I now believe that the conditions are right for me to create content that I love. I believe my story has aspects that others may resonate with.
I hope that my content resonates with you.
If it does, you can continue to read here, and follow me on X at @ScottOnFire.
