I don’t give financial advice.
That’s it, that’s the post.
But seriously, I want to talk about the topic of “financial advice“. What is it, and why is it such a big deal? Why does everyone online talk about personal finance, and then write things like “this is not financial advice”, “do your own research”, and “past results are not indicative of future results”?
It’s because talking about finances in a way that can influence someone to make a financial decision is illegal if you do not have a financial services license. At least it is here in Australia.
I studied finance at university, but that doesn’t count for anything in the real world. This license is a big deal. As a small creator, I’d much prefer to stay out of ASIC’s way.
I don’t want to make your financial decisions for you. In fact, that’s the exact opposite of what I want to be doing!
My focus is to ensure that you know how to learn about making financial decisions. So, I’ll never write in a way that influences you to make financial decisions. You can learn about that and make the decisions yourself.
In my first major post on this site, I talked about the concept of investing and why investing is important. But I didn’t mention any financial products, asset classes, or provide any advice as to what you should invest in.
As the Investing Series continues, I will be talking about different asset classes. However, this will be an objective view. I will not be telling you which investments to buy and which ones to avoid. The point is to give you enough basic information to understand how to research investing further, and then make those decisions for yourself.
I want to create a wealth of information that helps people understand the questions they should be asking when faced with an investment opportunity. This is important, because the answers to those questions are different for everyone.
Some people have a higher risk tolerance than others. Our circumstances change as we get older and as our family situation evolves. I have no idea of knowing how you invest your money, or what your investing goals are.
I can’t give you the answers to these questions and expect it to “work” for you. Even talking about my own investments or investing goals could potentially influence you to make a decision.
But I know one thing for certain. Nobody wants a friend or loved one losing more money than they can afford on something that “couldn’t fail”. Or something that was “too good to miss out on”.
To Summarise
I will never give you direct financial advice.
If you see an account that looks like mine giving financial advice, it’s not me.
Nothing posted on this website is financial advice.
The content on this website is meant to be foundational, motivational, informational, and general in nature. While I do write about financial topics, there will never be any direct guidance on how to allocate your money to best suit your personal needs.
I want to keep writing about saving, investing, and choosing work you love, and giving you the ability to make those decisions for yourself. Hopefully, I can help at least one person from following bad advice or being scammed.
