Welcome back to another Life Update!
This is the second instalment in my Life Update Series, where I record my accomplishments from the last month.
These posts are a way for me to remain accountable to myself for future months, and as a diary of what I have achieved so far. I’ll cover statistics from my blog and X profile, as well as things I did well/ not so well throughout the month.
Things I Achieved
There are a couple of notable achievements from this month:
Maintained My Content Schedule
Last month, I set the goal of consistent content creation.
I’m proud to say that I was able to meet my self-imposed deadline of writing and publishing an article once every Tuesday and Friday.
There were a couple of articles where I got the info out late, and I’m not happy with all of the images I’ve used for them. But I got the articles out, and I can always improve them later.
I Got a Job!
Last month, I had a goal of landing my first client. I’m starting a consulting business and using the skills I’ve built up in my career to do some solo contracting.
Unfortunately due to some complications, I wasn’t able to acquire this prospect as a client. Instead, I’m working for them as an employee. I wrote about why this is the case in this article.
Regardless of how I’m working, the opportunity is fantastic and my skill set is a great match to support this client. I’m positive that over the next few months working with them they’ll have fantastic outcomes.
Doubled my X Following
During the first half of the month, I was posting diligently on X. During that time, I connected with some cool content creators and was able to become part of a community.
This community has been a great resource to me, connecting me with like-minded creators who are on their own journey.
This also gave me exposure to more ideas and more audiences of smaller creators, giving me more opportunities to acquire more quality followers.
I plan to keep posting on X for the foreseeable future. And these communities will help me grow + find cool people do things similar to me.
I Articulated my Personal Philosophy
I wrote and published an article this month describing my personal philosophy.
I think it’s been one of the most important things I’ve ever done.
The philosophy describes how I navigate life and what I have learned to create the lifestyle I’m living right now. The concepts in that philosophy underpin the content that I publish on this site, so I consider it essential reading. So much so that I added a direct link to that article at the top of my site.
I believe that this may be the beginnings of a framework (and potentially a digital product?) that I can work towards creating over the course of this year.
Whatever it becomes, I’m exciting for that philosophy to take shape as I continue to write.
Life Update Statistics
I’m posting the statistics of my blog and X profile for posterity. I want to capture this information so that I can see the progress from one month to the next.
It’s not my intention to get competitive about the numbers. I’m sure many accounts have grown faster than mine, and many have grown slower. The stats simply are what they are.
- Total blog posts published: 4 > 13 (+9 this month)
- Website views last month: 61 > 37 (+31, last 28 days)
- X posts: 225 > 560 (+335)
- X impressions for month: 8,224 > 12,300 (+49%)
- X followers: 17 > 35 (+18)
I’ve posted the stats from last month and this month, as well as the change from month to month.
I’m really proud of these results! It’s nice to see the progress now that I have a full month of data to work with.
Like with many things, how you do the actions matters a lot. Joining the X community that I did has helped a lot. The end result is higher numbers, which feels like levelling up in a video game!
Things I Enjoyed
While it’s nice to talk about the big wins of the month, I also want to talk about stuff that I enjoyed.
Getting Back To Work
It’s only been one week (and only four business days), but returning to work has been really exciting. It’s nice to be back in the office and contribute to a project with others. And I’ve nearly doubled my hourly rate by taking this work on.
This contract should see me through for about six months, after which I’ll depart from this company and consider my next options. I’m anticipating having my business set up properly by this time, so I’ll be able to accept more work this way.
I’ll be focusing on getting work (and getting paid) using my career’s skill set, while working on this blog & digital products on the side.
Gaming With Friends
I’ve had a lot of fun this month playing video games with friends.
I enjoy writing, and I enjoy that this hobby is leading to some amazing things happening. But video games with the boys is also a lot of fun.
Gaming has been a part of my life for many years. I don’t want to throw that all away, but I don’t want to overdo it either. I burnt through over 350 hours recently playing Old School Runescape. Great fun, but I’m prepared to do it again! I have lived both extremes and think that a small amount of gaming is ideal.
The game of choice for this month has been Teamfight Tactics. A new version was just released which has been great to learn. Although I may have gotten carried away with how many games I played…
Last Month’s Goals
Let’s see how I did on last month’s goals:
Landing my First Business Client
As I mentioned above, I didn’t get a business client. In fact, I’ve had to postpone the launch of my business entirely.
But I did get a job as an employee, doing the same thing I would have been doing if I won the contract through my business.
In short:
Consistent Content Creation
I succeeded in writing and publishing every Tuesday and Friday. Big win!
Let’s see if we can keep this going throughout April.
Building an Exercise Habit
This is where I dropped the ball this month.
I started the month off well, but I didn’t maintain running throughout the month.
I ran and walked 21.8km by March 12, but didn’t run for the rest of the month.
If I kept that pace, it could’ve been close to 50km, beating the 32km result from February.
As we approach autumn weather here in Australia, I need to focus on getting outside and running more. If I can’t do it now then I certainly won’t do it in winter.
I’ll want to keep this up and make sure that I do better in April.
Goals for Next Month
I only have one major goal for April 2024:
Consistency
I want to maintain the work that I’m doing.
4-5 days work per week. Two published articles. Posting on X. Fun with friends. Exercise.
Short and sweet this month.
Closing
Some good updates in this month’s Life Update, but a not so good update also. I’m excited to see how things change come the April Life Update.
